Powerful and Authentic. Healing and Uplifting. That’s how best to describe the tone of the CMT Artists of the Year event in Nashville this week. Every year the show takes on an award type feel honoring a group of country music artists, but this year the tone was different in light of the recent natural disasters and tragic shooting in Las Vegas that killed 58 people .
Luke Bryan, Chris Stapleton, Florida Georgia Line, Keith Urban and Jason Aldean were the five honorees and the most powerful moment of the night came in the beginning when they all took the stage at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center and spoke from their hearts.
“We’ve been tested beyond our worst nightmares the last few months,” Jason Aldean shared. “Heartbroken doesn’t even begin to explain how some of us feel. But we have proven time and again in this country, that we have the power to overcome anything that threatens our way of life or our freedom.”
“From Las Vegas to Puerto Rico, from Florida and Texas to Charlottesville and California, the entire nation is trying to process these devastating events,” Chris Stapleton expressed to the crowd with Keith Urban adding, “We hope to remind you that everything we go through we can get through when we stick together.”
