I’m touched by this story today — a story being lived by country duo Joey & Rory. Rory is opening up about his wife’s recent stage four cancer diagnosis.
And – it brings up this whole idea of love big — love mindfully — and be aware of how you love — and be respectful of love.
Joey & Rory’s video “It’s Important to Me” says it best — being a wife, playing country music, chasing dreams, being silly – holding hands & being in love = good life.
Rory posted this comment today in regard’s to his wife’s cervical cancer diagnosis:
“The doctors say there is a 9 cm tumor in Joey’s sigmoid colon. Even though the cancer is now in the colon, they said it’s the same cells as before (she was diagnosed with cervical cancer last year and had surgery last June to remove the tumor), and that the original cancer has now spread to a new organ and the tumor and cells are rapidly growing, so that is the big concern.”
Joey & Rory live on a small farm in an old farm house just outside of Nashville. They even have a small little restaurant they own that’s a local hangout in their country town. They live simply, and together — songwriting, enjoying nature, traveling, being parents — and now they have to face the uncertainty of cancer.
Rory has taken to blogging about his personal journey in life and his wife’s cancer journey — and their love affair in his blog “This Life I Live.” He writes profoundly — just like a song. But, more than anything I’m captivated by his level of respect and admiration for his wife. He hides nothing as he writes about her and his appreciation for her. They’re lovers and they’re pals.
Prayers for Joey xoxo
